This is my first new thread on this forum since joining. I discovered Shitcase Cinema about 6 months ago when searching for information about Zardoz. The Shitcase review was I think one of the first things Google came up with. Anyway, my life, needless to say, has not been the same since that day...
Anyway, what is the strangest, most mental, random and incomprehensible movie you've ever seen?
And no, mine's not Zardoz though Zardoz is pretty damned strange....
For me it has got to be The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky.
(See trailer here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHiA3w6Y3KA )
This is clearly the work of a man who was tripping on some seriously bad acid. Nothing in this movie makes any sense, its just pure random bollocks. That isn't to say its not awesome in its own way, but I think maybe you need to be tripping yourself to appreciate the underlying meaning of it. If there is an underlying meaning apart from "don't take acid, it will make you go make films like this!"
Made in Mexico in 1973 by underground cult figure, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and partly financed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, this has got to be one of the all time most bizarre films you will ever see. Compared to this Zardoz makes complete crystal clear sense. George Harrison was initially interested in being cast in the leading role of the film but withdrew after finding out that he would be required to be butt naked and shit in a glass container (I kid you not, there is a scene where the main character takes a dump in a glass container which an alchemist turns into gold!)
If you want to know what it is like to have a bad trip without taking bucketloads of shrooms, then watch this film. It is utterly mental.
My runner up would be David Lynch's Inland Empire.

I can't even begin to explain what this film is even about, its just so bizarre and mental. I have read pages and pages of analysis of what this movie actually means but I am still none the wiser. It seems to be about breaking down the barrier between reality and fantasy, between the movies and real life, between sanity and madness, or some bollocks.
Anyway, those are the two strangest things I've ever watched.
Yours?
