Just curious to know if there are any movies you like, but have very slow beginnings and/or pacings. I'm not talking about movies that are just plain boring, I'm talking movies you still like or think are allright, but can get a little slow at times.
1. Jurassic Park- I love this film. I grew up watching it. The second hour has some awesome dino attack sequences and the finale is excellent. The first hour however, is pretty slow. Once you've seen the movie a few times you'll find yourself reaching for the fast forward button. The first half mainly explains how the dinosaurs were cloned and helps to develop the characters as well, but there's really no need for this after you've seen it several times. This portion of the film does manage to hold my interest, but mostly just because of the good acting, great dialogue, and cool set designs.
2. Alien- Not much to say. I know it's slow paced, but I never had any issues with keeping my interest.
3. Aliens- This is mostly the special edition I'm talking about here. Similar to Jurassic Park, nothing much happens for the first hour. We don't really see any xenomorphs until that point. The characters however, are well developed and interesting, so they manage to keep most of us intrigued. The space effects, as with the first film, are very well done for their time. So when you do finally get to see the aliens, it's sort of a reward since they look great as well. So, the first hour may be a bit too slow for people with shorter attention spans, but the action later in the film more than makes up for it.
Die Hard- One of the best action films, I agree. Problem is, absolutely nothing happens for the first 20 minutes of the movie. McClane arrives at the airport, gets driven to the building to meet his wife, talks to some people, then argues with his wife. It's a bit of a slow beginning to a film that has tons of action in it later on. Once the bad guys show up, things start getting fun however. By the way, anyone ever noticed that the opening credits are nearly 10 minutes long?! I mean they're shot inbetween scenes, but still. Interesting that the 2nd and 3rd films don't have any opening credits, they just go right to the title and then the film starts.
